Bones Quiz
A bones quiz in twelve questions, every one of them name-the-bone: the longest, the smallest, and the ones better known by their everyday nicknames.
Twelve name-the-bone questions
Every question in this set asks you to name a bone. Some come at it by superlative — which is the longest, which is the smallest — and some come at it through the nicknames people actually use, asking you to match the everyday word to the formal name on the anatomy chart. The prose on this page will not hand you any of those names; the questions exist to ask them.
The skill being tested is really one skill in two directions: nickname to formal name, and formal name back to the plain-language one. If you can travel both ways, the whole dozen is in reach.
Two authors, one answer key
Each answer on this site was written down twice before it was asked once. Two authors independently completed the same fixed set of 200 keys — the question catalog together with the structured tables that back it, bone names included. When the two copies were compared entry against entry, all 200 values agreed. That agreement is the admission ticket: a question is only asked when both authors, separately, committed to the same answer. Where either could not vouch for a value, the question was dropped instead of padded.
Playing a round
Twelve questions, four options each. Pick an option and the page grades it on the spot, showing the correct bone whether you got it or not. When the last question is done you get a full review of the round, and your best score stays saved in your browser for next time. There is no signup and nothing to download — the quiz runs right in the page, as many times as you want to run it.
