The Sculpture ‘Marmite’ Question:
What do you love?
What do you hate?
Grayson Perry replies:
“Most public sculpture I hate. Sculpture in general? I like a nice Benin bronze, I thought they stood out very well in the Bronze show at the Royal Academy, they were great, a lot of that African bronze sculpture is lovely.
I think one of the best sculptures is Rachel Whiteread’s House, certainly one of the best sculptures of the last few decades. I think it is the poetry of it, the resonance of those spaces, the humility – the monument to ordinariness.
I think my least favourite sculpture is that Monument to the Women of World War Two in Whitehall, that is an ugly sculpture, I think it is very well meaning…but God is it ugly!”
